Thanks, that was fun - and beautiful, up to a point. By the way, whatever happened to Miura "-gun" which I remember was an integral part of my postal mail address, once upon a time... What is a -gun?

I am not sure I quite follow you when you mean "up to a point." I know it would be hard to live out in Miura-gun or Miura-shi, whatever it calls itself. Development was not controlled enough for the area to remain bucolic. At the same time the area is so bereft of basic services (supermarkets and a train line that actually arrives somewhere are the first items that come to mind) that it is not suburban either.

The trash problem is also pretty bad.

Up to a point - as in the photos of a certain Prime minister.

That area near Kamakura is beautiful and has such a rich history, yet Hayama has become some kind of housing project for the very rich.

Great to see you posting your photo essays once again. They best Andrew Sullivan's window views IMHO, and fit beautifully with the blog. Kudos.

Martin J Frid -

I felt to compelled to include at least one image with a strong link to politics. And the photos are not just of the former popular PM but of his second son, now LDP superstar, Shinjiro.

(Where is Son #1? Do they not do lunch together?)
