Yet Another Paradigmatic Shift...

A state of affairs likely to make negotiations over the Northern Territories rather...uneventful.

But an article in the Sankei Shimbun tells me that Dmitri Medvedev's election will mean change! His foreign policy will have colors! Uniquely driven colors!

Only such colors as may be found in Vladimir Putin's rainbow, I'm afraid.

Russian prosperity illustrates why Japan should have attempted to negotiate various matters from a position of strength 10 or 20 years ago. Now, when she wants to discuss things with, say, the Chinese, they can respond with the attitude that Japan and the US are fading, so time is on China's side.
