A photo for the ages -- let us just hope the age in question is not ours.
Right wing heroine and TV personality Sakurai Yoshiko, former prime minister and LDP member Abe Shinzo, Sunrise Party (Tachiagare Nippon) leader Hiranuma Takeo and The Spirit of Japan party leader Yamada Hiroshi announce the formation of a united front against the Democratic Party of Japan.
- The Hanoi field hospital (1945)-born author of the infamous "The Facts" full page advertisement in The Washington Post, as well as hundreds of revisionist articles, opinion pieces and books.
- The grandson of a Class A War Criminal. And lots of other stuff.
- The adopted son of a Class A War Criminal.
- A signer of the official letter in support of "The Facts" advertisement and former mayor of the only major city whose public middle schools used the controversial Fusosha "New History Textbook."
Honestly, when will these folks find some other hobbies to pursue?

"Class A War Criminal". It is better to check first whether Tokyo tribunal was really lawful and fair enough. These people are at least against inhuman act by China, unlike DPJ.
ReplyDeleteMTC,
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I believe that by the time the textbooks reached Yokohama's classrooms, they had been dropped by Fusosha and picked up by a Jiyusha, a smaller organization. I have heard that they might also have taken on a more moderate tone, but I haven't read the new version yet.
Also, Kishi was never charged, though he did pen poems from Sugamo about the righteousness of the Holy Army (mi'ikusa). In any case, though I think Abe and Hiranuma are Class-A fucktards, it is better to judge them on their own merits. Even if that includes writing about how great former war crimes suspects were.
"was never charged"
ReplyDeleteSilly me. Never convicted.

ReplyDeleteHow does confronting and taunting the Chinese make life better for ordinary Chinese--or ordinary Japanese for that matter?
The Chinese government is what it is, with totalitarian tendencies from at least the Song Dynasty. What do these individuals think, that China's leaders are going to change their ways based on their lectures on the bases of civilization? Given the identities of their ancestors?
Ridiculous!
Would I like the Chinese to give up their horrible, systematic grinding of the innocent and the guilty alike under the pestle of tyranny. You bet I would. Want to know a secret? So does every single person in the DPJ. Yes, even Ozawa Ichiro.
To serve the interests of Japan's citizens requires a sense of what one can and cannot do, and the wisdom and forebearance to do not indulge oneself in actions or stances just because they make one feel good.
The DPJ has a realistic plan of handling Japan's relations with the PRC based on Japan's proximity to China, Japan dependence on China's growth for any semblance of prosperity and the knock-off effects of the overall growth of China's economic advancement.
What do these folks have? Hide behind America's skirts until Japan has its own deterrent.
Sorry, not a realistic option.
So what is the purpose of their crusades, if their plans to defend Japan's interests are unworkable?
As long as Chinese government does not give rights to the Chinese people to learn about Tiannamon, or all the support given by Japanese to Chinese people after the war, it is impossible for Japan to build a proper relationship with China.
ReplyDeleteAmerican government is not better than Chinese government, but at least people of America know what the democracy is.
And your point is? Didn't Abe make China his new BFF just as soon as he became prime minister?
ReplyDeleteAll the Japanese politicians have respect for the sovereign right of other countries. You don't have to pick a fight with your neighbours because of the fact that they are criminal or crazy.

ん?And how do you explain Japan's relationships with Iran, or Burma (Myanmar), or Cuba, or Fiji, or one of the many other repressive or unfree regimes in the world? The world is not black and white, and both you and the Japanese government know it.
Because in Iran, Burma or Cuba, they don't teach children that all the problems come from Japan and they have to blame and hate Japan. Simple is that.

ReplyDeleteThat's not what you said, but I'll leave it at that and end the conversation here. I refuse to debate with an anonymous commenter.
